Miss Mini, our miniature horse, keeps up quite well. Whenever she falls behind, she trots back up to where we are. It’s the funniest sight to see our seven year old bouncing along on her back as she catches back up!We’ve been trying out the trails in the surrounding area. Illinois tends to be pretty flat with meadows, prairies and marshlands, but every once in a while we stumble on some fun hilly trails. One of our favorites so far is near Starved Rock in Utica. A place called Matthesien State Park. Another set of trails that we want to get back to soon is Middlefork. It has lots of hills, creeks, and a river crossing that our horses all loved. They went right out into the middle and started playing and pawing at the water. Middlefork is also three hours away, so sometime soon we’ll make a weekend of it.
