Dairy Goats

Our Milking Goats

We have a variety of milking goats on our small farm. Alpine, Nubian, Lamancha, Nigerian dwarf, and mixes to create the best of the the various breeds. Alpines are arguably the most prolific milk producers, while Lamanchas, known for their lack of ears, follow close with their sweet milk supply. Nubians, although not as heavy producers, have a very high butterfat content to make extra rich, creamy milk. Their adorable drooping puppy dog ears adds to their sweet character!

The girls on the farm are in charge of daily milking and care of the goats. Each morning and evening during milking season, they faithfully milk, weigh and record the daily milking, as well as make sure they have an ample supply of hay and clean water.

While we love all of our milkers, we periodically have an abundance and need to make room in our barn. Click here or at the bottom of the page for our goats that are currently looking for new homes.

Meet our Goats…

Cookie, Holly, and Gingerbread are our main milkers. In 2021 we introduced Nigerian Dwarf goats to our herd! We are excited to be welcoming babies from all of them in May!

Cookie, who is full Alpine, is an easy milker. She is calm, friendly and easily gives an abundance of milk. She’s also a great mom to triplets last year.

Holly is almost always the first to greet you at the fence. She’s a busy body and loves to be in on the action. She also is the ditz of the bunch. Last year was her first time being a mom, and if I could read her mind, she must’ve been looking at her newborn twins and thought, “What just happened to me? And why do these babies keep following me?”

Gingerbread is the escape goat of the crew. If the goat gate doesn’t have the lock put on it, she’ll inevitably find it and lift the latch so they can all have free reign of my fruit trees. She was also a first time mom last year, but unlike Holly, her instincts kicked into high gear. She also had twins and is a great mom.

Nala is a registered Nigerian dwarf. She is also an escape goat, who love slipping under the fence. She thinks that the grass is greener on the other side. She will be a first time mom this year.

Snow White is also a registered Nigerian dwarf. She likes to keep her distance, but can’t resist a nice helping of alfalfa hay. She will also be a first time mom this year.
